While the essays that comprise it are themselves remarkable as innovative, early pieces of nature writing—they were cited by Thoreau as a model for his own work—the book’s extensive endnotes incorporate some of Humboldt’s most beautiful prose and mature thinking on vegetation structure, its origins in climate patterns, and its implications for the arts. Written for both a literary and a scientific audience, Views of Nature was translated into English (twice), Spanish, and French in the nineteenth century, and it was read widely in Europe and the Americas. But in contrast to many of Humboldt’s more technical works, Views of Nature has been unavailable in English for more than one hundred years. Largely neglected in the United States during the twentieth century, Humboldt’s contributions to the humanities and the sciences are now undergoing a revival to which this new translation will be a critical contribution.

Genius Uncovered

Humboldt is a forgotten genius of the first magnitude. He is a delightful read and this is a fine excerpt of his writings. He inspired Darwin, John Muir, Thoreau and many others, but has been eclipsed by time. He was also the inventor of ecology and enviornmentalism and isotherms, which are still being used. A worthwhile read.

Awesome read.

I was literally up until three in the morning one night reading this book. I have really been thinking about how to deal with a faith that rejects a large group of people in light of the love I believe we are called to share with EVERYONE, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, etc. Emily's story is gripping and beautiful, and presents a fantastic way to think about loving people from within the church, without needing to leave. :) I really hope she writes more books.

What a straight woman taught me about being gay

As a gay man I fell in love with Emily Timbol's book. It might sound weird - but a straight person's book really taught me a lot about the coming out of the closet experience. When we come out as gay, what often delays the experience is the fear of how others will react. Reading Emily's story of coming to grips with being a passionate straight ally could do wonders for young gay people everywhere. Do your gay friends a favor and buy them this book.

In parallel with the rise of IT during the last 40 years, the role of the pharmacist – and the society in which pharmacists work – has changed considerably. Pharmacists are no longer principally compounders of medicines, but they are still responsible for ensuring that the patient receives the correct medicine, ensuring that the patient understands why they should take their medicine, and helping the patient with taking the medicine and being concordant with therapy.

Si quisiera leer a Warren Buffett, leería a Warren Buffett, esta obra está plagada de citas del inversionista y no aporta nada adicional, el único que gana dinero con este libro, es el autor con los ilusos cómo yo que compran la publicación creyendo que cuando menos vas a encontrar algún tipo de estrategia para inversiones en bolsa.
Debiera llamarse "Frases de Warren Buffet sobre la bolsa de valores"

Buenos recursos e informacion, pero le falta darle el formato correcto

Es un muy buen libro para empezar a conocer del tema, y aventurarnos en hacer nuestras primeras acciones en la bolsa. Explica muy bien que son las acciones, opciones, futuros, ordenes de compra, ordenes de venta, como ganar cuando sube y cuando baja el mercado, como usar las herramientas de internet en nuestra ventaja, como abrir una cuenta con un broker en linea, etc.

Sin duda un buen arranque.

Lo malo, es que el libro tiene un formato no acorde para el Kindle, es decir, usa algunas veces tablas y se pierde la organizacion cuando lo leo en el dispositivo. Otra cosa es que empiezas a notar como la informacion algunas veces es repetitiva, lo que leiste en el capitulo 5 es algo similar al capitulo 3, pero visto a mas detalle. Tal vez seria mejor que dedicara capitulos enteros a ver de un tema en conciso y asi evitar la sensacion de deja vu.

One of the best divisional histories of WWII

This book cover the history of the U.S. Army Sixth Armored Division from its organization, its first combat in Normandy, exploitation into Brittany, fighting in eastern France, the Battle of the Bulge and the final battles and drive into Germany. There is also information of the divisions post war association, who sponsored this book.

Of particular interest are: 1.) the destruction of the German 266th Infantry Division, which was attempting to get into Brest. The first clear contact was the capture of the German division commander, when he drove into American lines. 2.) the liberation of the Buchenwald concentration camp.

The book is well written, detailed and well referenced. There are a large number of useful maps and interesting pictures. A serious omission is the absence of an index.

If you were exposed to infidelity, please purchase this book

If you're looking into this book and reading this review, chances are you have been devastated by infidelity recently. This book is straight forward and has helped me realize that my feelings towards my wife's infidelity are not only normal, but are something that I can overcome. I was absolutely shocked how the author hit the nail on the head with real world examples of exactly how i feel. I'm not done with the book yet but so far I have not been able to put it down. My wife and I are working on making our marriage work so I am having her read this book with me each night so she can understand my emotions and help herself deal with what lead her to cheat in the first place. This book is perfect- it helps both the hurt partner and the unfaithful partner understand their actions, their reactions to themselves and each other, and how to cope with ending or continuing your marriage.

I was hesitant to purchase this because just reading the title stings a little. It's a terrible reminder of something that should never happen between two loving people. I feel like it takes a bold person to purchase a book like this because it seems so much easier to not think about the things that hurt us. I'm just a regular guy, not endorsed by the publisher or amazon, but I can tell you that the best thing you could do for yourself or your marriage is to add this book to your amazon cart and start healing the right way. Realize that your feelings are common and you're not crazy, irrational, or undesireable as you might think.

What do you have to lose? The book was under ten dollars, cheap in regards to what I believe it's worth. Be strong enough to seek guidance because you are not alone. Good luck.

A light in the pitch black darkness!

Exactly what I needed. I purchased this in spite of some of the negative reviews I saw. I, unlike those individuals, wanted something that I thought would offer the most neutral perspective possible. I felt that continuing to victimize myself was not productive. This book was able to, without blaming me, help me learn how to share the responsibility with my spouse. To me, that feels slightly better than looking at my spouse as this villain. If you are looking for an book we that will solve an affair for you, you won't find one. What this did for me is reaseure me that all the chaos in my mind right now is normal. It out words to feelings I'm having that I couldn't identify myself. It also helped me to think of my spouses feelings and view him as a person instead of a monster. The author does not take sides. That is what I wanted. If you at looking for someone to encourage you to leave your spouse, or to attack your partner's mistakes, this is not the book for you. If you are some or who genuinely wants to try to explore the possibility of working things out or learning to forgive, buy this book now and get started. I read it in 2 days and am now going to read it with my spouse. I am optimistic for the first time since learning that my life was a lie. This was what I needed.

A worthy read for difficult times.

I started reading this book six weeks after my husband admitted his affair. It explained everything I was going through and also gave me insight into my husband's state of mind. The book is not intended to fix your marriage or provide answers, but it will help you direct your thoughts in a positive, productive direction. I am glad I read this book when I did. The most important thing I took away from this book is that feeling insane is normal after you have been deceived. Also the section on stay vs. go gave me some points to think about to decide when trying to decide if I wanted to fix my relationship or leave. The book was easy to read and is insightful for both partners. I recommend it in conjunction with counseling. If you are reading this review, I wish you luck on this painful journey. I also recommend "When Things Fall Apart" by Pema Chodron to help you with your journey to healing from this experience.

If you like the Starz series you will absolutely love the books

Clean the house, stock your cabinets and ask for time off work. You just want to sit and read from book one to the end and now I am waiting impatiently for the next one! The sex scenes get less graphic as each book moves along if that offends you, just keep reading it is worth it. If you like the Starz series you will absolutely love the books. Worth the time. I carried one with me everywhere I went until I had read the last page. There are little novellas in between to read too. Starting to collect them now. Didn't know that until today!

Love her books. They are full of romance, adventure, and they keep you on the edge of your seat. If you haven't read them yet, do it is worth your money.

Love, Sex and War!

I have read three books and they seem to get better and better each time. The books make the characters come alive and you want to start talking with a Scottish accent. These books have it all Love, Sex, and War, Mystery, and Mayham.
