About the Author
ERNEST CLINE has worked as a short-order cook, fish gutter, plasma donor, elitist video store clerk, and tech support drone. His primary occupation, however, has always been geeking out, and he eventually threw aside those other promising career paths to express his love of pop culture fulltime as a spoken word artist and screenwriter. His 2009 film Fanboys, much to his surprise, became a cult phenomenon. These days Ernie lives in Austin, Texas with his wife, their daughter, and a large collection of classic video games.

There can be only one
By E. Daniel
If you grew up in the last few decades of the 20th century, you may have known someone like Ernie Cline. If you owned a Commodore 64 and spent many hours typing out lines of BASIC so you could play a few games of checkers on a blue on blue screen before your sister pulled the plug, you ARE someone like Ernie Cline. If either of these descriptions fits you, you will enjoy this book.

These pages of short poems and haiku are viciously funny and painfully close to home for those of us who often found ourselves on the wrong end of the word "nerd" in our school days. Cline takes all the best examples of nerdery and turns them into pop culture diamonds coveted by his inner self in his Jekyll and Hyde poem, "The Geek Wants Out". He laments the fate of many a grown geek in "Tech Support", and explains his interesting relationship with Jesus in "Bottom Bunk Messiah". My favorite piece has to be the homage to that greatest of all TV shows revolving around a vehicle, "Airwolf".

Cline is a veteran of the poetry slam community, and his poems, though created for the stage, are just as alive on the page. His book is a must have for anyone who has ever been to a comic-con, owned a copy of the the Dungeon Master's Guide, or knows someone who has.

"He is the one the legend spoke of."

Decent, if brief.
By BAmirault
I thoroughly enjoyed Ready Player One so I thought I would give this book a try even though I'm not typically a "poems and essays" guy. it was about what i expected but it took less than an hour to read. The whole book is 1/4 inch thick. Thats ok, but not for the price I was charged. This book should have been $5.

A Fantastically Geeky & Hilarious Time Capsule of the Early Work of Ernest Cline
By C. O. Aptowicz
When I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be a writer. But growing up in working class Philly, it seemed like an impossible dream. I mean, I knew writers exists, but I didn't understand how they got to BE writers: the years of effort, the steps it took, the rejections & acceptances that would eventually put them on their path. When I began looking into the lives of writers I admired, I loved ones who seemed to have fought impossible odds -- creating wonderful and iconic work along the way -- to get them where they are. And it is for this reason that absolutely adore the Write Bloody Publishing's gorgeous illustrated re-issuing of novelist & screenwriter Ernest Cline's first (and only!) poetry collection, THE IMPORTANT OF BEING ERNEST.

For those fans of Cline's work that were first introduced to him via the (cult) film, FANBOYS, and even more so for those book-lovers who fell in love with Cline via his incredible debut novel, the NYTimes-bestselling READY PLAYER ONE, there is so much for love in this collection. We see Cline in his earliest years as a writer: ranting about his day jobs, railing against unchecked complacency & contemporary idiocy, and -- perhaps most fun -- unabashedly geeking out over the things he loves. Although these spoken word pieces are all over a decade-old, there is a smart freshness to them. Even though I've heard the pieces before -- you can download his spoken word CD for free on his website, and it contains many of the pieces in the book -- I still find myself laughing out loud. And the highly stylized, high-energy Len Peralta illustrations which accompany the pieces just add to the fun.

Feel free to google some of the best known works in the book -- "Dance Monkeys Dance" "The Geek Wants Out" "Tech Support" "Airwolf" "Nerd P*rn Auteur" -- to get a sense of what is in here, but please know that are lesser known Cline gems to enjoy as well. It is a fun & heartening book for any fan of Ernest Cline's, and any geeky writer wondering were a powerhouse like Cline got his start!
